Pen Pals

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

I’m putting together an auction donation and sent out a request for autographed books. Well, in the process of gathering the books etc, I’ve begun corresponding with an author living in Scotland (I gushed over how much I want to visit her country.) and she’s been sending me beautiful pictures of her homeland. I’m in awe. I truly cannot imagine living where she lives. Beyond beautiful, it looks so…peaceful. So serene. One of these days…

Which begs the question: if you could go anywhere, live anywhere, where would it be?

One of those sayings

Monday, September 29th, 2008

There is a saying about how a person can’t see the forest for the trees. Ever heard of it?

I’ve heard it for years and today I’m truly feeling it. First off, I have a nasty cold I picked up at RAW. OMG I’m the friendly sort but whomever came to the event sick needs to be drawn and quartered. My head hurts, my face feels like it’s going to explode and my throat is itchy and scratchy and I sound like a bullfrog. Attractive, no?

So, I’m dealing with that as best any allergy/cold meds can, and trying desperately to finish this book. But into my head pops this saying. Can’t see the forest for the trees. And it sooooo fits! There’s something there, something teasing the corners of my now-drugged mind that needs to into this story–but I can’t figure out what. It’s too fuzzy. I think the “thing” is there, but it needs enhanced, drawn out and made a priority. Ever have something like that happen to you? Kind of like when you go upstairs to get something but when you get there you can’t remember what it was you went to retrieve?

As to last week’s winner—Joni! Joni, you’ve won a pair of my beaded earrings. Please email me privately with your shipping information.

As to the question of the day, What are you reading? MY TBR pile is towering and I can’t wait to hit it if/when I ever get this story together. Have you stumbled across any great books lately?

A beautiful fall day

Friday, September 26th, 2008

It’s about 72 degrees here today. The breeze is blowing gently, rustling the leaves in the trees. Trees that are just beginning to show a hint of fall color. I love the oranges, reds and yellows. Outside my window are soybean fields, a combination of dark green and bright, golden yellow.

I love fall. I love the cooler temps, the gorgeous foliage. If only my flower beds were weeded so everything would be nice and pretty.

Are you a Fall person? Is Spring more to your liking? Love the Winter chill and skiing, or would you rather spend Summer on the beach?

I spent a lot of time getting to know Lucy Monroe and let me tell you, she’s such a sweetheart. She’s one of those people who makes you smile. That’s one of the best things about gatherings such as this–you meet fabulous people.

I love my mask. I picked it up in New Orleans years ago, along with the beads. What do you think?

This is Stacy, otherwise known as Lady Lovelee. She had the coolest costume! Thanks for the email letting me know her name.

And last but not least, sisters Jamie and Ashley. The pic of the three of us didn’t turn out, so here are the two of them looking so fabulous in their little black dresses!

And that’s it! The costume party was so much fun. I had a horrible headache that night so I skipped out on the music and wound up spending hours and hours in the lobby with friends.

Do you have costume parties? What are your favorites? Do you do anything special for Halloween?

Exhausted but blessed

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

I’m exhausted. I’m hoarse. I’m smiling.

Reader Appreciation Weekend was soooo much fun! I chatted until my throat is sore, I’m absolutely dragging, but I had a wonderful time hanging out with friends, making new friends and eating German chocolates provided by my new friend Ilka. YUM.

I’ll post pics as soon as possible, too tired tonight, but I have to tell you, I’m feeling blessed. I’ve never felt so…welcome. If you haven’t attended this event, please do. It’s soooo worth it!

As to the winner of this week’s earrings–Kimberly Van Meter! Please email me privately with your shipping information.

As for the question of the day…. if you WERE going to attend a reader/author event, what would YOU like to do? Any special thoughts? Suggestions?
