Chaperoning

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Tomorrow I’m traveling with a school group as a chaperone. We’ll be spending the night at COSI, a science and research center in Columbus, Ohio. If you’ve never been to COSI or something like it, they’re lots of fun, very informative and just plain cool.

I’ve been warned about the noise (we’re one of many, many schools attending the event), the uncomfortable sleeping conditions (thin carpet over concrete floors) that a sleeping bag just doesn’t fix, and lots and lots of kids, but I think (hope and pray) it’ll be fun and a great experience all around. But that got me thinking about chaperoning and all the things that can happen. That many hormonal kids in one place?

So, please say a prayer and wish me luck–and tell me if you’ve ever chaperoned a group of teens before. Come on, tell me some stories! I need to be prepared LOL And if you haven’t chaperoned, well, what have you done on those trips when the chaperones weren’t looking???

Lounging in the Tiki Hut

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Hi, all!

I’m lounging in the Tiki Hut over at Author Island today. If you get a chance please stop by and say hello–books are being given away. :cutedog:

Also, I just received a fantastic review for HER BEST FRIEND’S BROTHER. This is from The Romance Connection:

“HER BEST FRIEND’S BROTHER is absolutely brilliant. Kay Stockham continues to bring complex characters together, and provide them with real life situations to deal with. Friendship and family ties are all added into the mix. Luke and Shelby are my favorite characters to date, dealing with trauma, grief, disappointment, and of course love. It’s interesting to see how the family sticks together. The end brought tears to my eyes. Don’t hesitate to read this story, Ms. Stockham is a must buy!”

Cool, huh?! I love it!

I’ve had internet problems the last two days (I know, I know, story of my life!) but I’m getting lots of work done on my proposals. The sun is shining, the birds are singing (which is amazing since their beaks really ought to have frozen shut given the weather!) and it’s a beautiful day.

What’s it like in your neck of the woods?

Snowy Sunday

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Big fluffy flakes of the white stuff have been flying off and on all day. Nothing major on the roads (always a good thing) but pretty. This kind of snow I don’t mind–although the cold I could really do without!

We had quite a few home projects that simply had to be done this weekend, and we actually managed to accomplish some of them. Yay! We still have tons to do (Why is it that everything always breaks at once? We lost the washer AND the dishwasher in the same year–last year, but only just replaced the dishwasher.) Never let it be said that I don’t use them. LOL But, right now the old one is still sitting in the kitchen. *sigh* Where’s another strong back when you need one? But–thank goodness to have a new dishwasher! Oh, how I’ve missed it!

The sleepovers etc turned out well. Lots of fun all around. They made one thing clear, though–I need to take some time to get together with my friends. Those deep belly laughs ARE good medicine, aren’t they?

Reviews are starting to come in for HER BEST FRIEND’S BROTHER and so far, so good! All are very positive and very flattering. Shew! I don’t know of a single writer who doesn’t sweat reviews. I’ll update the website here soon and post them but if you want a sneak peek, I believe one has already been posted at Cataromance.

The winner of last week’s beaded earrings is Jennifer! Jennifer, please email me privately with your shipping instructions.

And since I need a question to help kick off my week…. What’s your favorite color and why? Do you wear it often?

To be young again

Friday, February 20th, 2009

The subject of today’s post is about age–or rather, how old we feel. Right now? I’m feelin’ pretty darn old. Moon LOL Why? Because I have four teenagers in my house and the energy level is astounding…and I’ve learned two things.

I haven’t truly *giggled* in a long, LONG time. :crowd:

And guys get no end of entertainment from burping and farting. LOL

Yeah, I need to do this more often. Let my house be invaded and just sit back and watch. It’s amazing. Truly. Was I like this? Really? And what of my husband? Was he that teenaged boy farting and burping and laughing about it with his friends? I’d say so.

The girls will be heading out later to spend the night at yet another friend’s house while the guys stay here with an endless supply of junkfood and three gaming systems. Yeah, I doubt they’ll be getting any sleep tonight.

Me? I’ll be hanging out and listening Loser And trying to remember when I was that age.

So, when was the last time you GIGGLED?

Kay

PS–thank you so much for the prayers! My friend is feeling a little better today. Please keep the prayers going!

Prayer request

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

I don’t often do this but if you read my books then you’ve probably guessed that I’m a Christian who firmly believes in the power of prayer. So, I’m asking a favor of believers and non-believers alike. Please, say a prayer. I have a friend who is very ill. She’s one of those people who has never met a stranger, one of those people who would do anything–anything–to help another. Right now? She needs all of us.

So, if you’re so inclined, please send up a prayer for my friend. Believe me, He’ll know who you mean.

Thank you and God bless,

Kay
