Finding yourself “in the weeds” is mostly a restaurant term, I think, meaning when you’re working as fast and as hard as you can but you’re in the weeds fighting your way out. Well, I recently found myself in the weeds writing-wise. I’m working on the next story in the STONE GAP MOUNTAIN series, but I soon realized before I could work on it–I had to jump forward to the NEXT book (a Christmas novella) to figure out what happened to a character. Until I did that, I couldn’t work on the next in the series. So what have I been doing?
Yup. Writing that Christmas novella. I now know what happens with that character, and I know what needs to happen in the most current story. Now to get the words down. I love the excitement of that, of starting a new story when everything is fresh and new.
School begins this week (where did summer go???), and I hope to be logging a lot of writing hours once the house is completely mine again.
In the meantime, I’m playing catch up as always because I didn’t get even half of my summer to-do list completed. What about you? What have you done this summer? Get your list finished?
